Energy Laura Fitzmaurice

Laura is the Horizon 2020 Northern Ireland Contact Point for Energy, based at Ulster University. She has a responsibility to engage with EU energy related research and development programmes in order to maximise Northern Ireland’s opportunities for EU funding under Horizon 2020.

The Horizon 2020 NICP aims to ensure that NI companies, research institutions and other organisations are well informed when applying for Horizon 2020 funding for energy-related projects. Laura provides advice and support on accessing Horizon 2020 funding for research, development, demonstration, innovation and market transformation across the energy theme.

A key area of activity is the Horizon 2020 Secure, Clean and Efficient Energy Challenge which covers research, demonstration, innovation and market transformation actions across Energy Efficiency, Competitive low-Carbon Energy and Smart Cities and Communities. The role also works in other cross cutting themes in the Horizon 2020 programme where energy plays a key role.

Laura has 10 years’ experience in the renewable energy industry and has experience of commercial scale offshore wind and solar projects. Laura has experience resolving technical issues and challenges for commercial scale renewable energy projects in the field and has brought some innovative technologies to market.
